Java Properties File - JSF Application

I have a JSF portlet let running on Sun Java System Portal Server. I have a configuration file (.properties) that the application r开发者_StackOverflow社区efers to. Each time I change a value in configuration file, I have to restart the server for the changes to take effect. Is there a way to do this without restarting the server and still use a properties file?
