How to integrate the functionality of two events?

I have a textinput. I want an event to be fired when i leave my field, so i called my function under focusOut event. But I realized the event fires when i just tab navigate thru the fields. So I called my function under change开发者_运维问答 event. Now my function is called for every letter i type [i.e. if I type "tag" my function is called 4 times]. I want my function to be called only when i change my field's value and that too only after all the changes are mode.(after i have typed in all the words). How can I do it?
