TTF font on linux web host appears different

I'm trying to get my rails app recognize "Gabriola.tt开发者_如何学运维f" as a system installed font so that I can use wkhtmltopdf to generate a PDF without having to use @font-face (because it doesn't work in webkit when printing). Here's what I've done so far:

1) Copied my "Gabriola.ttf" font file from my windows 7 font directory to ~/.fonts on my web host.

2) run fonts.dir

3) run fonts.scale

4) run fc-cache -f -v

At this point, the font family "Gabriola" is being recognized when I issue "fc-list : family |sort". The problem is that when I generate the PDF, the font looks nothing like Gabriola. I've tested whether it is simply defaulting to a different font by issuing a CSS fallback font but it stays the same. Is something wrong with the file, or what? I've also attempted to convert the .ttf to .pfa but the result is the same.
