The Treaty of Versailles had numerous effects, both positive and negative. On the positive side, it officially ended World War I, established the League of Nations, and set in motion the process for Germany to become a democratic nation. On the negative side, it forced Germany to accept full responsibility for the war, pay heavy reparations, surrender a large portion of its territories, and have its military severely limited. Additionally, it created a great deal of resentment in Germany which would eventually lead to the rise of the Nazi Party.
