Programmatically create new tab on SAFARI works as new WINDOW instead

Using either _newtab or _bla开发者_高级运维nk should enable any browser to open a new tab for a given link. I've tried that in a project's site and both works for Firefox 4 and Google chrome but Safari 4.0.3 always opens in a new window.

How can I force safari to open the link in a new tab? Does this issue have something to do with Safari settings...?
